NCR Corp., the world's largest ATM manufacturer based on annual shipments, announced yesterday that it had received a large order for ATMs from State Bank of India, the country's largest bank based on assets. State Bank of India signed a deal to purchase 3,800 ATMs from NCR, Jeff Dudash, an NCR spokesman, tells ATM&Debit News, a CardLine sister publication. "I am told this is the biggest ATM order in India's history," Dudash says. The Mumbai-based bank purchased the Persona 75 and Persona 77 Solo model ATMs. Bank customers will be able to withdraw cash, make deposits with envelopes and obtain account balances from the machines, Dudash says. "This order reiterates our leadership position in the Indian ATM marketplace and reinforces our long-standing partnership with SBI [State Bank of India]," Rajiv Arora, NCR's general manager for sales in India, said in a statement. The bank operates an ATM network of more than 15,000 ATMs, and Duluth, Ga.-based NCR says it has supplied 10,000 of those machines. "It [India] is a very important market for us," Dudash says. State Bank of India has become a pot of gold for ATM manufacturers because the financial institution is expanding its ATM network to new locations and replacing older machines. The bank plans to expand its ATM network to 25,000 machines, according to published reports from India. In the last few months, Wincor Nixdorf AG, the world's second-largest ATM manufacturer based on annual shipments, and Diebold Inc., the world's third-largest ATM manufacturer based on annual shipments, have landed large ATM orders from State Bank of India. Wincor Nixdorf is based in Paderborn, Germany, and Diebold is based in North Canton, Ohio.
