First Data will continue to provide Sterling's business clients with payment processing services and technology under the terms of the deal, according to the companies' Feb. 27 press release.

"We rely on our relationship with First Data to serve our business clients who are primarily privately-owned, entrepreneurial firms," says Suzanne Copeland, chief marketing officer of Sterling National Bank, in the release. "Our sharp focus on providing exceptional service to our clients is aligned with First Data's goal to offer value by helping our clients grow."

First Data's other offerings include Clover Station, a tablet-based point of sale payment acceptance and business management system. First Data bolstered its mobile and loyalty offerings last year with the acquisition of marketing specialist Perka.
