Tempo Partners With Doctors Without Borders To Provide Affinity Debit Cards

Tempo Payments Inc. on July 1 announced the launch of the Doctors Without Borders affinity decoupled debit card.

Tempo will share a portion of the revenue it earns from each purchase initiated with the MasterCard-branded card with the humanitarian organization, which provides urgent medical care in some 70 countries.

Tempo will give the organization 0.5% of each signature-debit sale and 0.1% of every PIN-debit purchase amount, says Pete Bartolik, a spokesperson for the San Mateo, Calif.-based affinity card provider.

First Bank & Trust, a Brooking, S.D.-based financial institution, issues the card. The card links to the cardholder’s checking account, which can be with any U.S. financial institution. First Bank withdraws funds via the automated clearinghouse network using account and bank-routing information from a personal check (see story). http://www.paymentssource.com/news/tempo-introduces-affinity-and-co-branded-debit-2703971-1.html

Tempo provides similar cards to other nonprofit organizations, including the Arthritis Foundation, the Breast Cancer Fund, Greenpeace, In Defense of Animals, the Manilow Fund for Health and Hope, Surfrider Foundation and World Emergency Relief.
