Uber, Ebanx connect to instant PIX payments in Brazil

With Brazil's Central Bank launching the PIX instant payments network Monday, Uber and Ebanx quickly announced they are expanding their partnership to enable Brazilians to make instant payments through PIX for Uber rides and Uber Eats orders.

Working through its parent company, Ebanx Pagamentos Ltd., Ebanx will process the payments for Uber. Ebanx Pagamentos offers local payment processing in Brazil.

"With the arrival of PIX and given the importance of the Brazilian market for Uber, we want to offer a new payment experience to our millions of users that is aligned with the objective to always provide and think of ways to make life easier through technology," Claudia Woods, general manager for Uber Brazil, said in a Monday press release.

PIX, or the Brazil Instant Payment System, will play an important role in Brazil as "a more modern payment option in our platform and Ebanx will give us the necessary tools for processing these payments safely," Woods added.

The partnership between Uber and Ebanx for payments with PIX adds to the existing integration of the two companies for Uber Cash in Brazil, which started in 2019.

"We truly believe that PIX will be a milestone of financial inclusion in Brazil, bringing millions of Brazilians into the digital economy" Henrik Nilsmo, chief commercial officer of Ebanx, said in the release. "We are happy to partner with Uber for this new payment method, offering more options for Brazilians to enjoy their services, and addressing Uber's needs of payments, localization and good user experience through our solutions."

Brazilians can currently use PIX to get Uber Cash, and will be able to pay for Uber rides and Uber Eats orders with the new payment method as the feature is released gradually over the next few weeks, the companies stated.
