Bank Machine Ltd. is working with four building societies, or member-owned financial institutions, to deploy "free-to-use" ATMs at more than 250 sites across the United Kingdom, the ATM operator said Friday. United Kingdom-based Bank Machine is working with West Bromwich Building Society, Principality Building Society, Furness Building Society and Saffron Building Society to install the ATMs this year. The ATM operator already has deployed at least 500 free-to-use ATMs in such places as hospitals, universities, military bases and impoverished neighborhoods, the firm says in a statement. Bank Machine deploys about 2,500 ATMs in total. The firm says it is filling a void left by the 200 or so bank-branches that close annually in the UK, a number the company expects to increase as the recession worsens, the statement says. Company officials did not respond to a CardLine Global request for comment.
