U.S. Bancorp today named Anthony Vuoto to head its card operations. Vuoto, 58, will serve as general manager of retail payment solutions, which comprises U.S. Bank's consumer and small-business credit, debit, prepaid and specialty card businesses, as well as its retail payments innovation unit. He succeeds Pat Coll, who retired last month. Vuoto, a 25-year credit card-industry veteran, was president of Washington Mutual Inc.'s card-services division when JPMorgan Chase & Co. acquired WaMu last year while it teetered on the verge of bankruptcy (CardLine, 9/26/08), and he became president of Chase's card services division. Before joining WaMu, Vuoto was chief financial officer at Providian Financial, which WaMu acquired in 2005. Before he joined Providian, Vuoto served as president of Citigroup Inc.'s private-label card business and general manager of its German credit card business.
