Visa Inc. and U.S. Bancorp today announced a limited test of Visa's contactless-payment key fob, the Micro Tag, which Visa introduced in September 2007. This month, approximately 4,000 U.S. Bank employees nationwide will receive prepaid Visa Micro Tags equipped with the Visa payWave contactless technology. Each fob will be preloaded with a small amount of money. U.S. Bank said employees cannot reload the Micro Tags and would not disclose the amount of money to be preloaded onto them. The pilot program's goal is "to test consumer preferences" for alternative payment devices, Visa said in a statement. Cardholders are not required to sign for Visa payWave transactions under $25. A U.S. Bank spokesperson tells CardLine that U.S. Bank has issued contactless cards in both its credit and debit portfolios, and the company has seen positive results in terms of performance and customer feedback.
