VeriFone Holdings Inc. on Aug. 11 stopped selling payment terminals to Princeton, N.J.-based payment processor Heartland Payment Systems Inc. because of a dispute over a terminal Heartland is developing for use on its network, Heartland announced Friday. The two companies are suing each other. VeriFone alleges Heartland is infringing on a patent VeriFone holds and, in a separate suit, Heartland claims the point-of-sale terminal maker has engaged in unfair trade practices (CardLine, 10/22). "Heartland will continue to support—as we have been—all types of existing equipment through our service center and field service operations. This includes support to our VeriFone customers," a Heartland spokesperson tells CardLine sister publication ISO&Agent Weekly. VeriFone, meanwhile, calls Heartland's assertion false. "Heartland's statement is untrue, and the core of this dispute is VeriFone's belief that Heartland is infringing our intellectual property as detailed in our complaint," VeriFone said in a statement.
