Visa has hired Ramon Martin, who was previously with American Express, for the newly created job of global head of merchant sales and solutions. Visa also announced that Elizabeth Buse, who heads its global solutions group, plans to retire March 31 after 16 years at the company.

In the new merchant sales role, Martin will be charged with helping Visa provide customized products and services for merchants worldwide, according to a March 13 press release. He will also work to expand Visa's merchant and acquiring partnerships, reporting directly to
Martin joins Visa after 16 years at American Express, where he was most recently president of merchant services in the Americas. Before joining Amex, he was a commercial director at the shipping company DHL International in Spain and a consultant at management consulting firm Alexander Proudfoot in both Spain and the United States.
