Visa Europe has launched a pilot in the United Kingdom with HSBC Bank PLC to test the HSBC Visa card, which combines credit and debit functions, the card brand announced Tuesday. Visa and HSBC based the card on the VisaSimplyOne multiapplication platform, which uses anti-fraud EMV chip-and-PIN technology. VisaSimplyOne enables cardholders to choose their preferred payment option using a PIN at the point of sale. The card also has a magnetic stripe for use in non-EMV countries, Visa says. HSBC worked with card manufacturer Oberthur Technologies to develop the card.
