Acquirers globally have until July 1, 2010, to ensure all newly signed merchants use software applications that comply with the Payment Card Industry Payment Application Data Security Standard, Visa Inc. announced this week. A year ago, Visa set that date as the deadline for U.S. and Canadian acquirers. This week's announcement adds those in the Asia-Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. The standard helps ensure that software capable of accepting electronic payments does not store sensitive transaction data. Acquirers have until July 1, 2012, to ensure existing merchants use compliant software.
