Visa Inc. today announced at the Clinton Global Initiative Conference in New York that it hopes to reach 20 million consumers worldwide with financial-literacy information by May 1, 2013. The effort's centerpiece is the launch today of "Financial Soccer," a soccer-themed videogame Visa is distributing free to consumers globally. The game, called "Financial Football" outside the U.S., made its debut in Brazil last week. It uses images from FIFA World Cup soccer to teach users about saving, spending, budgeting and wise use of credit. Players must answer fast-paced, multiple-choice questions correctly to score goals. The game comes with three degrees of difficulty, for children, teens and adults. Players can play alone or go head to head with another player. Visa has been a FIFA sponsor since 2007. To kick things off, Visa and trading-services company NYSE Euronext today distributed free copies of the videogame to all traders at the New York Stock Exchange. Consumers can download the game for free at www.financialfootball.com and at www.financialsoccer.com. Last year at the Clinton conference Visa pledged to reach 10 million consumers with personal-finance education within five years.
