Vivotech Inc. and Monitise PLC have formed a partnership to bring mobile-payment services to banks within the United States, London-based Monitise announced Dec. 7.
Their service, designed to enable consumers to turn their handsets into a mobile wallets linked to their bank accounts and credit and debit cards, will use contactless technology delivered through the combination of Vivotech’s over-the-air software and Monitise’s mobile-money software, Monitise says.
Through Santa Clara, Calif.-based Vivotech’s software, mobile-phone providers and issuers may remotely load credit, debit or prepaid card information into a secure chip placed in an NFC-enabled mobile phone, a SIM card or into a MicroSD card, the company notes in a news release.
Monitise and Vivotech did not say when the service will be available.
