Wells Fargo hires JPMorgan’s Bei Ling as head of HR

Wells Fargo is adding another onetime JPMorgan Chase executive to its operating committee — this time as its new head of human resources.

Bei Ling, who will join the $1.9 trillion-asset bank in October, will succeed Kleber Santos, the company’s head of diverse segments, representation and inclusion. Santos has held the HR role on an interim basis.

Wells Fargo’s prior HR head, David Galloreese, who joined the bank in 2018, left in April to join Figma, a digital design company.

Ling will report to Wells CEO Charlie Scharf, who said in a press release that she will help the bank “build a world-class culture and foster an inclusive environment to attract, develop, engage, and retain the best talent.”

Bei Ling, who has spent the last eight years at JPMorgan Chase, will join Wells Fargo in October and report to CEO Charles Scharf.

Ling has spent the last eight years at JPMorgan. She served most recently as the company’s global head of Talent Development and Total Rewards, as well as the head of human resources for its commercial bank.

Scharf, a former protege of JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, has surrounded himself at Wells Fargo with numerous former JPMorgan executives.

Those hires include Scott Powell, chief operating officer; Michael Santamassimo, chief financial officer; Barry Sommers, CEO of wealth and investment management; Michael Weinbach, CEO of consumer lending; Lester Owens, head of operations; Michael Lipsitz, chief regulatory and policy affairs executive; Michael Cleary, head of sales practices management and oversight; and William Daley, vice chairman of public affairs.

Earlier in her career, Ling worked at PNC Financial Services Group as deputy head of human resources and in the HR and global finance departments at Merrill Lynch.
