Consumers in Nigeria who use the eTranzact mobile money platform can now receive a Western Union transfer on their mobile phones. The transfers can be initiated at Western Union's website in 23 countries and at the company's agent locations.

Upon receipt of their funds, subscribers can use PocketMoni, the eTranzact Mobile Money platform, to pay bills, shop, top-up their mobile phone credits and make transfers to other parties.

"[PocketMoni] is specifically designed to transform a user's mobile phone into a highly interactive, feature-rich payment device, and our relationship with Western Union will allow for 24/7 access to money transfer transactions," says Valentine Obi, managing director and CEO of eTranzact, in a press release.

Western Union, which is focusing on mobile and other digital channels to improve financial performance, has recently expanded its mobile money reach in a number of international markets through partnerships with MasterCard and other local providers.
