Western Union has added several European countries to its WU.com online money transfer service, using an omni-channel strategy to fuel its expansion.
New transactional Western Union websites have gone live in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Malta and Slovakia, the company announced in an August 11 news release. Altogether, Western Union now offers online transactions in 29 countries.
The global payment company also announced that it formalized a deal with MasterCard and Banca Transilvania in Romania. The agreement will allow any remittances to be received on MasterCard and Maestro payment cards via 900 of the Romanian bank's ATMs. Western Union recently entered a similar deal with PKO Bank Polski in Poland to allow consumers to pay out remittances to their bank accounts.
"Leveraging a strong omni-channel strategy, Western Union continues to grow its online transactional network worldwide," said Khalid Fellahi, senior vice president and general manager at Western Union, in a news release. "Our cross-border platform provides the technology, foreign exchange conversion and settlement, regulatory and compliance infrastructure, and data management that brings this network together."
