Net sales reached 646 million euros (US$849.3 million) for Wincor Nixdorf AG in the first quarter of the 2008-2009 fiscal year, up 7.3% from 602 million euros for the same period last year, the Germany-based ATM vendor said Monday. The first quarter runs from 1 Oct. to 31 Dec. Profit for the period reached 35 million euros, up 9.4% from 32 million euros for the same period last year. Company growth was driven by Wincor's banking segment, where net sales reached 456 million euros, up 12.3% from 406 million euros last year. Net sales in Germany increased 12.3%, to 155 million euros from 138 million euros. Net sales in the Asia-Pacific region and Africa increased 23%, to 100 million euros. Net sales in the Americas increased 16%, to 58 million euros. Net sales in Europe outside of Germany remained at approximately 333 million euros. Eckard Heidloff, Wincor's president and CEO, cautioned that the deepening economic crisis could result in less growth in the coming quarters. "The impact of the economic crisis will also be felt by Wincor Nixdorf," he said in a statement.
