Wirecard enables furniture payments on delivery in Germany

Furniture retailers typically split payment for big-ticket items with a deposit and the balance due upon delivery, but the process is usually fraught with paperwork, security and efficiency gaps.

Wirecard has teamed with Segmuller, one of Germany’s largest furniture retailers, on a payment approach enabling consumers to pay merchandise invoices with their mobile devices or credit cards when the furniture is delivered, Wirecard said in a Tuesday press release.

Using a payment app Wirecard built for Segmuller, store personnel can charge customers an initial deposit, with the remainder settled instantly and securely at the customer’s door via Wirecard’s software and payment processing, the release said.

“The mobile payment solution is optimally tailored to the delivery model,” said Christian Reindl, Wirecard’s executive vice president for sales and consumer goods, in the release.
