WP Engine adds one-click checkout for WordPress-hosted sites

To speed up and simplify the checkout process at many e-commerce anchored by WordPress, a popular website hosting service, WP Engine is introducing an API giving developers a quick path to adding one-click payments.

Austin, Texas-based WP Engine has announced an integration with Payment Request, an API supported by Google’s Chrome 53 for Android, which will remove the need for consumers to manually enter payment and shipping details when checking out in WordPress-hosted e-commerce sites, WP Engine said in a Nov. 11 press release.

Consumers visiting sites leveraging WP Engine’s checkout technology will use credentials stored in Chrome to obtain payment and shipping details with “a few simple taps,” WP Engine said in the release.

The integration addresses the frustration consumers experience when entering lengthy transaction details data with smartphones’ relatively small keyboards and screens, the company added.

“Buying things online via mobile can be a frustrating experience for users due to having to manually type in information over and over again—resulting in shopping cart abandonment for merchants,” said Lisa Box, WP Engine’s vice president of business development, in the release.
