Xoom's Mother's Day Promotion Uses Amazon Gift Cards

Xoom will give customers who send a digital online money transfer to the Philippines during the month of May a $50 Amazon.com gift card as part of a Mother's Day promotion.

Filipino customers can visit Xoom's site, click a designated link connected to the Mother's Day promotion, and send money to the Philippines. Amazon is not a sponsor of the promotion, Xoom said in a release.

"May is a big gifting month for Filipinos because of Mother's Day and the start of back to school season," said Julian King, Xoom's senior vice president of marketing and corporate development, in a release. Mother's Day is May 12, and school starts on June 10 in the Philippines.

Xoom's recent initiatives include Pay Only When Received, a program in which Xoom does not withdraw money from the sender's account until the funds reach the recipient. That program started in the Philippines in March, and has since expanded to more markets.

Xoom has also offered Skype credits as an incentive for using its service.
