WABASH, Ind.. – Beacon CU paid members a loyalty dividend of more than $806,588 on Dec. 31.

ARVADA, Colo. – Partner Colorado CU paid its members a special dividend of $700,000.

ST. LOUIS – Anheuser-Busch Employees’ Credit Union and its American Eagle CU division paid its first-ever special dividend for members yesterday, returning almost $1.2 million to 69,000 members.

CLEVELAND – Ohio’s First Class CU declared both a loan interest rebate and a bonus dividend for the sixth consecutive year.

For the seventh month in a row, credit union business loan approval rates were down in December, according to the Biz2Credit Small Business Lending Index, while big banks saw a 13% increase in business loan approvals.

Looking back at 2012, there's a key differentiator between those CUs that made money and those that didn't: expense management.

Expense management is often a key factor in why small credit unions continue to struggle.

As credit unions enter 2013, they are faced with some sobering facts: A small percentage of institutions continue to drive most of the industry's growth, thousands of credit unions' earnings remain flat or in the red, and many analysts are forecasting the situation is not going to be getting better anytime soon.

BROOMFIELD, Colo. – Community Financial CU will distribute $300,000 to its members as part of its fifth annual bonus dividend.

HARRISBURG, Penn. – Pennsylvania State Employees CU said it will pay members a $10 million cash reward based on their relationship with the credit union, the credit union giant’s first member bonus since the financial crisis.

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Motorola Employees CU paid its members a special patronage dividend of $750,000 on Dec. 31.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – NCUA said today that last year’s liquidation of Telesis Community CU, the year’s biggest failure, is projected to cost the National CU Share Insurance Fund losses of around $72 million, most of it on bad member business loans made by the one-time $615 million Chatsworth, California, credit union.

JOLIET, Ill. – NuMark CU paid its members a Dec. 31 bonus amounting to a 5% auto loan interest rebate and a $5 checking bonus for December – a total of $230,000.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Penn. – U$X FCU paid its members $420,000 in member loyalty rewards.

There remains more concern than celebration among CU economists following last week's passing of a bill that backs the United States away from the so-called fiscal cliff.

MENOMINIE, Wis. – WESTconsin CU paid members almost $1 million in bonus dividends and interest rebates on Dec. 31.

DENTON, Texas – DATCU CU, which recorded its best year ever, shared record earnings with its members by paying $974,000 in special dividends Jan. 1.

TEXAS CITY, Texas – AMOCO FCU will celebrate another strong year by paying its members $1 million in bonus dividends and loan interest refunds, its 17th straight member bonus.

ANTIGO, Wis. – CoVantage CU announced $1.5 million in patronage dividends were paid to the credit union’s borrowing and saving members.

DEARBORN, Mich. – More than 100,000 members of DFCU Financial will get a big bonus tomorrow, the credit union’s annual Special Patronage Dividend—this year a record $21 million.
