Sandy Hits New York's Financial District

Apple Bank's Water Street branch did the best job of any business in the area of sandbagging and sealing its premises. Unfortunately, it still flooded.

Fruit from an overturned street cart floated into the planters in front of JPMorgan's 55 Water Street branch, showing that the flooding reached at least five feet above street level in low-lying parts of the financial district.

On the west side of the island, water flowed in several blocks past the West Side Highway.
