Mark Twain in pact for First Shawnee.

ST. LOUIS - Mark Twain Bancshares Inc. of St. Louis said it has reached preliminary agreement to acquire First Shawnee Bancshares Inc., parent of First National Bank of Shawnee, Kan.

Terms were not disclosed. The Shawnee bank, which would be mark Twain's first in Kansas, has $60 million in assets and two offices.

Jack L. Sutherland, president of Mark Twain Kansas City Bank, described First National Bank of Shawnee as an active middle-market lender with a style very similar to Mark Twain's. No major management changes are planned, he said.

Mark Jorgenson, an 11-year veteran at Mark Twain Kansas City Bank and a resident of Shawnee, will be president of Mark Twain's Kansas banking group.
