Chemical, Nissan said in card talks.

Chemical Banking Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. may team up to offer a cobranded credit card, market sources say.

Nissan has been gathering data to evaluate a proposal by the bank to issue a card in the next year.

Details of the proposal were not known, but many experts have predicted automakers would imitate General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co.

The two automakers have sponsored successful credit cards that offer users a rebate toward the purchase of cars and trucks.

Representatives of Nissan's U.S. division in Torrance, Calif., did not respond to requests for comment.

A Chemical spokesman declined to comment on Nissan, but said the bank is in talks with a number of companies about credit card ventures.
