Glendale Federal Bank has signed a $5.5 million contract with NCR to install NCR automated teller machines at more than 200 branch locations.
Glenfed, one of the nation's largest thrifts with $17.9 billion in assets, will install the ATMs at branches in California and Florida. The installation will include walk-up, drive-up, and lobby machines.
Installation of the ATMs has begun and will be completed by the second quarter of next year.
"Modernizing our self-service capabilities is part of Glendale Federal's objective to operate as a community-oriented bank and more effectively serve our customers," William Birch, executive vice president of retail banking, said in a statement.
Mr. Birch added that Glenfed chose the NCR machines because they could be fitted in existing locations with a minimum of modifications, and offer desirable functional and ergonomic features. Models of the NCR 5600 series ATMs support statement and document printing, and can be upgraded for AT&T's SmartCard technology.
The Glendale, Calif.-based institution just completed a major $451 million recapitalization program.
