Thomas Johnson tapped for top job at Green Point.

Thomas S. Johnson, the former president of both Manufacturers Hanover Corp. and Chemical Banking Corp., has joined Green Point Savings Bank as chairman, president, and chief executive.

Green Point, a Queens, N.Y.- based thrift with $6.2 billion of assets, is slated to go public later this year.

Mr. Johnson was president of Chemical Banking Corp. and its lead bank from 1983 to 1989. He left that year for rival Manufacturers Hanover, but lost his position as heir apparent to Hanover chairman John McGillicuddy when the two companies merged.
