Union of Calif. converting to Equifax Software.

ATLANTA -- Union Bank has decided to replace its in-house credit card processing systems with software from Equifax Inc.'s FBS Software subsidiary.

The San Francisco-based bank said it expects to have its nearly 200,000 accounts fully converted to the mainframe-based Bank-card System and Merchant System by March 1996.

Union Bank looked at various in-house and service-bureau processing alternatives but decided "an in-house solution was less expensive and would give us the control to expand our card program," said bank vice president Sara Flynn.

"We made a list of features and found that FBS products were clearly the best fit," she added. She said the Service Builder feature was particularly attractive for maintaining service quality, while the Product Builder feature will enhance marketing.
