Card Briefs: Danish Smart Cards To Be Seminar Topic

MINNEAPOLIS - Smart card consultant Joseph Schuler said he has reached an agreement with the Danmont organization of Denmark to present a seminar on its stored-value card system on Oct. 18-19 in the San Francisco area.

The case study of Danmont's pioneering smart card program, its technology, and pricing scheme will be led by Henning Jensen, the company's managing director, and Annette Falberg, senior vice president of marketing.

Danmont, owned by a consortium of Danish banks and telephone companies, went nationwide in 1993 after a yearlong trial. It currently issues disposable, machine-readable chip cards in 44 cities, and a reloadable card is scheduled to be introduced this summer.

As an indication of its global influence, Danmont has licensed its technical specification to Visa International for the stored-value card program being planned around the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
