Tech bytes: Cincinnati's Provident Selling CDs on Internet

CINCINNATI - Provident Bank has begun selling certificates of deposit over the Internet.

Using Tristate Online of Cincinnati as its Internet service provider, the unit of $5.6 billion asset Provident Bancorp now lets customers get rates, select investments, and complete applications via personal computer.

"With four million PC owners who currently subscribe to on-line services, banks must make financial services available to the public through more efficient technology," said Karl Steene, vice president of Provident Bank.

The bank's Internet address is www.cin.ix.net/provident/. Provident Bancorp operates 74 banking offices through its subsidiaries Provident Bank, Heritage Savings Bank, and Provident Bank of Kentucky.
