First Union to Offer Account Data Acces Over the Internet

First Union Corp. announced that it plans to let corporate customers communicate with the bank through the Internet.

Starting in November, the bank expects that businesses of all sizes will be able to get on-line access to current and previous-day account information. The bank will test this service next month.

The new service, known as Webin Vision, is expected to be enhanced to allow customers to conduct on-line financial transactions.

"Until now, business users on the Internet have mostly had access only to marketing-oriented information," said Nina Archer, senior vice president of First Union's cash management division.

The new service will make use of Charlotte, N.C.-based First Union's relationship with MCI Communications Corp.

MCI has helped the bank develop software to let both retail and commercial customers access account information and conduct transactions securely.

The software connects users to First Union's home page on the World Wide Web portion of the Internet.

The home page is the public's window to the bank systems that house account information.
