Fleet Names Natwest Pair As Retail Execs For N.Y., N.J.

Fleet Bank, Jersey City, a unit of Boston-based Fleet Financial Group, has named as market managers for its New York and New Jersey branches two executives who came to it through the purchase of Natwest Bank.

John Buran, named an executive vice president, will be market manager of New York branch banking, responsible for products and services to branches in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County.

He had joined Natwest in 1994 and was head of retail services. Earlier he held retail, business banking, and operational positions at Citibank's Long Island and Westchester branches.

Chan Peterson will be Mr. Buran's counterpart in New Jersey. Mr. Peterson, who was also named an executive vice president, had been deputy head of branch banking at Natwest, which he joined in 1992.

Meanwhile, Fleet Financial hired Michael J. Panciera as vice president of its business banking group in Hartford, Conn.

Mr. Panciera is responsible for overseeing commercial banking relationships with clients.

He returned to Fleet after working as a vice president in the community banking department of First National Bank of New England in Hartford.

Mr. Panciera, who started at Fleet in 1989, held jobs there including credit analyst and assistant vice president, community banking, before leaving in 1993.
