Tech Bytes: Open Market Inc. Adapts Its Software to Cybercash

Open Market Inc. said its OM-Transact Internet commerce software will accommodate payments from the Cybercash system.

OM-Transact is designed to handle many payment methods and transaction processing options. The agreement with Cybercash Inc. initially will make more credit cards eligible for on-line acceptance and will extend to the Cybercash Wallet and Cybercoin products.

Open Market said it will work with Reston, Va.-based Cybercash to support the Secure Electronic Transactions protocol for credit cards. They also agreed to collaborate on handling future payment options such as electronic checks.

The agreement "has expanded the number of payment choices that on-line businesses and consumers enjoy," said Open Market president and chief executive Gary Eichhorn. "We think that enhancing OM-Transact's suite of available payment options can only make Internet commerce easier and more convenient."
