Ex-Integra Exec Joins Mich. National as Finance Chief

A victim of merger mania has landed on his feet.

Charles E. Van Swearingen, pushed out when Integra Financial Corp. was acquired by National City Corp., is the new chief financial officer at Michigan National Corp.

Mr. Van Swearingen, 41, had been a senior vice president and director of financial planning at Integra. He succeeds Joseph Whiteside, who left Michigan National in January to become a consultant.

Mr. Whiteside had been hired by Farmington Hills-based Michigan National in the spring of 1994 to help in the restructuring and turnaround of the bank prior to its sale to National Australia Bank Ltd. in November.

Mr. Van Swearingen had been with Pittsburgh-based Integra since 1988. He previously worked for smaller financial institutions in the Pittsburgh area.

"He will play a major role in our current and strategic programs, including expanded management information systems, acquisitions, and financial performance," said Michigan National chief executive Douglas Ebert.

Mr. Van Swearingen's job at Integra was eliminated when National City Corp. purchased the bank May 3 and consolidated its finance department in Cleveland.
