Tech Bytes: Software Firm Merger Links Fla., New Zealand

Phoenix International Ltd., a maker of client-server software for retail banking, announced plans to merge with Hampton Resources Ltd., Wellington, New Zealand, a wholesale banking software firm.

Hampton Resources' products include TradeWind, a trade finance application, and TradeCentre, a global payments system.

In addition to bringing Phoenix new offerings, the merger would give the Orlando-based company access to new markets.

"This transaction provides Phoenix entry into an important region of the world: Australia and New Zealand," said Bahram Yusefzadeh, chief executive officer of Phoenix.

The deal is slated to be completed as a pooling of interests. About 45 banks worldwide have installed Phoenix systems.
