Card Briefs: MasterCard Launches Discount Travel Plan

MasterCard International has launched a travel program that gives its cardholders discounts on vacation packages.

The first package, for trips to Mexico, will be available to U.S. cardholders "early" this year.

The company said the travel program, called MasterCard Destinations, is one of a number of travel and entertainment initiatives targeted at global travelers.

What's more, MasterCard said, it takes advantage of alliances the company has struck with travel partners, such as American Airlines' FlyAAway Vacations.

Stewart A. Stockdale, MasterCard senior vice president of global corporate and travel and entertainment marketing, said the strategic alliances, combined with MasterCard's presence in destination and origin markets, will boost its share of travel and entertainment spending worldwide. Currently, that amount is $93 billion.
