Capital Briefs: Fed Would Let Foreign Banks Centralize Reserve

A proposal released last week would allow foreign banks to consolidate their reserve accounts at a single Federal Reserve bank.

The Federal Reserve Board, which issued the proposal Aug. 5, now requires all foreign banks to maintain accounts at the reserve banks that cover every state where they maintain offices.

Foreign banks have long wanted to consolidate their reserve accounts at a single institution, saying it would be easier to manage one account. Comments are due Sept. 12.
