Short Takes: Third-Party Marketer Hires 4 Net-Savvy VPs

Third-party marketer Marketing One has hired four Internet-savvy wholesalers to capitalize on its technology as a selling point to banks.

"We recognized the need for a new breed of wholesaler," said William Martina, Portland, Ore.-based Marketing One's senior vice president and national accounts manager.

All four wholesalers were hired from other third-party marketers and have backgrounds in variable and fixed annuities, which are products Marketing One is making a push to sell, said Mr. Martina.

Mr. Martina declined to say which companies the four were recruited from.

The four, who share the title of vice president for new business development, are: Thomas J. Mihok, Northeast region; Elizabeth A. Schwarzman, Mid-east region; Valerie A. Perkowski, Southeast region; and Wilmer S. Little, South region.

Along with having traditional skills in providing training to sales reps and developing relationships with banks, the four have Internet skills that will allow them to effectively promote the company's proprietary Cyberlink technology, said Mr. Martina. Cyberlink is an 18-month-old Internet-based system that provides everything from annuity rates to forms to video clips showing sales techniques.

Marketing One, formed in 1983, provides technology, insurance products, and wholesaling services to the banking and insurance industries.
