Breaking Ranks, Credit Lyonnais To Issue a Cobranded Amex Card

American Express Co. inked a deal with Credit Lyonnais to issue a corporate card.

The companies had been rumored in February to be in negotiations.

Credit Lyonnais will be the first American Express banking partner to offer a cobranded corporate card outside the United States, and the first bank in France to issue a card without the MasterCard or Visa brand.

The card will be the third cobranded corporate card from American Express, which began issuing one for Qantas in November and struck a deal with National Westminster PLC to issue a card for United Airlines.

The Credit Lyonnais American Express Corporate Card will be launched during the second quarter, the companies said last week. The card will carry the bank's name and logo as well as American Express' blue box symbol. The Paris-based bank will market the card to its corporate clients.
