Chase Picks Deputy Global ChiefFor Shipping Industry Finance

Chase Manhattan Corp. last week appointed Peter Evensen deputy head of its global shipping group.

Mr. Evensen, 38, had been head of the bank's European shipping group in London, which he founded in 1989. He will relocate to New York and report to Morten Arntzen, head of Chase's global aerospace and shipping group.

In his new job, Mr. Evensen will focus on providing capital markets services, leasing, equity raising, and mezzanine capital to the shipping industry. He remains in charge of the bank's European shipping business.

"I want to stress that this new position will not alter Peter's relationship with his key European clients-Europe will remain his prime geographical focus," Mr. Arntzen said in a press release.

Reporting to Mr. Evensen will be Bob Crawley, responsible for Hellenic shipping; Mark Haines, Italian shipping; and Frank Pedder and Michael Borch, jointly responsible for Northern Europe.

Mr. Evensen has been with the company since 1983.
