Briefs: Chase Distributing MoreAsian Securities in U.S.

Chase Manhattan Corp. is boosting its Asian capital markets operations by stepping up distribution of Asian corporate notes and bonds in the United States.

As part of the effort to develop distributing securities issued by Asian borrowers, the bank has hired Paul Burke from Standard Chartered PLC, where he was responsible for originating, structuring, and distributing structured finance transactions.

Chase has also posted Richard Landau, a vice president in the bank's corporate treasury group in New York, to Hong Kong, as part of the program to expand in Asia.

Chase has been steadily building up its activities in bank lending and securities underwriting and distribution in Asia, including asset-backed securities. In a recent securitization program for Philippine Airlines, the bank used dollar-denominated ticket sales to back the securities issued by the airline.
