New Chairman, Executive Lineup for SPS

SPS Services Inc. has announced a new board chairman along with other organizational changes.

The new chairman, Thomas C. Schneider, had been the chief financial officer and a director of SPS since it was partially spun off in 1992 by what is now Dean Witter, Discover & Co.

Mr. Schneider, 59, is also the CFO of Dean Witter, Discover, owner of 73.6% of the transaction processing company based in Riverwoods, Ill.

The previous SPS chairman was Dean Witter chairman Philip J. Purcell, 53, who will continue as a board member.

Mr. Purcell is slated to become chairman of Morgan Stanley, Dean Witter, Discover & Co., assuming shareholders approve the merger of the two financial services giants May 28. The deal prompted the changes on the SPS board, because Mr. Purcell will no longer have adequate time and energy to devote to those subsidiary responsibilities, the company said.

Mr. Schneider will remain CFO of SPS and will become strategic and administrative officer of the new company.

SPS also announced that Robert W. Archer, formerly senior vice president of sales, has become senior vice president, sales and operations.

Richard F. Atkinson, formerly senior vice president of operations, is senior vice president, consumer credit card services.

Serge Uccetta, formerly vice president of card services, is vice president of commercial accounts services.

David J. Peterson, formerly vice president of network services and corporate development, is senior vice president, commercial technology services, a newly created position. They report to Robert L. Wieseneck, president and chief executive officer of SPS.
