Short Takes: Bear Stearns Adds Four Funds to Family

Bear, Stearns & Co. has introduced four mutual funds - the Focus List Portfolio, High Yield Total Return Portfolio, International Equity Portfolio, and Balanced Portfolio.

The four funds, launched three weeks ago, bring to 11 the number of proprietary funds at the New York firm.

The Focus List Portfolio will track 20 stocks chosen by a committee using Bear Stearns research, said a company spokeswoman.

The contents of the portfolio will therefore fluctuate, depending on the committee's picks, the spokeswoman said.

Bear Stearns said the Focus List Portfolio is the first of its kind on Wall Street.

The High Yield Portfolio will focus on the growing area of high-yield debt, and the Balanced Portfolio will comprise both equities and debt, with a 55% and 35% weighting, respectively, said the spokeswoman.

The International Equity Portfolio will hold foreign stocks but exclude companies from the so-called emerging markets, she said.
