In Brief: Feisty Chicago-Area Bank CEO Dead at 58

Saul D. Binder, the colorful president and chief executive officer of Success Bancshares, Lincolnshire, Ill., died Sunday of a heart attack. He was 58.

Success has named Christa N. Calabrese, executive vice president and chief lending officer of the $400 million-asset bank, as interim chief operating officer until a new CEO is found. Ms. Calabrese has been with the company since 1992.

Mr. Binder made headlines in the last year as an activist shareholder in two other Chicago-area community banks. In December he failed in his attempt to buy North Bancshares, Chicago, a proposal he threatened to bring before North shareholders at their May annual meeting.

And in January, shareholders of Damen Financial Corp., Rolling Meadows, Ill., defeated Mr. Binder's proposal to sell that company.
