In Brief: Price Picks Innovision Link for Quicken Users

Mutual fund provider T. Rowe Price has begun using software from Innovision Inc. to permit users of Intuit Quicken software to obtain account information over the Internet.

Based on the widely used Open Financial Exchange, or OFX, protocol, Innovision's Financial Server lets customers download information into Intuit Inc.'s Quicken 98 and Quicken 99 personal financial software. Support for other OFX-based products, including Microsoft Corp.'s Money, is expected to follow later.

"The availability of on-line investment tracking allows us to extend OFX capabilities to our shareholders, thus enabling them to view all of their investments in a consolidated format," said Kirk Kness, vice president of technology at Baltimore-based T. Rowe Price.

"We have to find some way to make it easier for consumers, or else consumers will find someone else to make it easier for them," said Mr. Kness.
