In Brief: Citi Offers to Install Software for Customers

In advertisements in New York area publications, Citicorp is offering to install its PC banking software for free on small-business owners' computers.

Les Dinkin, managing principal of NBW Consulting in Westport, Conn., said the offer should attract more entrepreneurs than simply mailing software to businesses. "It gets the business owners to ... start using it, rather than just letting it sit on a shelf," he said.

Citibank's PC banking program allows small-business customers to pay bills, get account information, transfer funds, and access credit lines. The bank charges no monthly fee for the service.
