Short Takes: Money Fund Assets Rose 0.96% in Week

Assets of money market mutual funds rose 0.96%, to $1.401 trillion, in the week that ended Dec. 9, the Investment Company Institute reported.

Balances of funds for retail investors grew 0.77%, to $823.66 billion. That included $677.25 billion in taxable portfolios, up $5.03 billion, and $146.41 billion in tax-exempt portfolios, up $1.24 billion.

On the institutional side, assets rose 1.23%, to $577.13 billion. Taxable portfolios held $528.36 billion, up $8.17 billion. Tax-exempt portfolios had $48.77 billion, down $1.14 billion.

The institute, a Washington-based trade group for mutual fund companies, surveys more than 1,600 money market funds weekly.
