Capital Bank Names Executive

Capital Bank, Raleigh, N.C., hired Allen T. Nelson Jr. to be senior vice president and chief financial officer.

He was chief financial officer of $2.2 billion-asset Jefferson Bankshares, Charlottesville, Va., which Wachovia Corp. bought last October.

He had been senior vice president and controller at Dominion Bankshares from February 1992 to December 1993. Earlier he was finance executive officer at C&S/Sovran Corp. First Union Corp. bought Dominion in 1993; NCNB Corp. had merged with C&S/Sovran at yearend 1991 and formed NationsBank Corp.

Meanwhile, $68 million-asset Capital Bank hired Charlie T. Bowers Jr. as senior vice president and market executive in Lee County.

He was a senior vice president and area executive at Triangle Bank. Mr. Bowers is responsible for all banking activities in Sanford, N.C., and Lee County. He succeeded Ernie McAlister, who was appointed to head two Cary, N.C., branches that Capital Bank will buy from BB&T Corp.
