In Brief: Contifinancial Buying Remaining Triad Stock

Home equity lender Contifinancial Corp. said it acquired the remaining outstanding common stock of Triad Financial Corp., a lender to used-car dealers, on March 1.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Contifinancial acquired a majority interest in Triad Financial, Huntington Beach, Calif., in November 1996.

Triad purchases and services prime and nonprime retail installment sales contracts from automobile dealers and other origination sources. The company has relationships with 1,900 dealers in 23 states.

Triad founders James M. Landy and Helen R. Kraus will continue to run the company.

Contifinancial also announced that it would buy back up to one million shares of its issued and common stock.
