Card Briefs: Paymentech Inks Fleet, Corporate Card Deals

Paymentech Inc. has signed Browning-Ferris Industries of Houston as a corporate card customer.

By early 1998, Paymentech plans to equip Browning-Ferris, the waste hauling company, with a Visa purchasing card program.

"Paymentech offered both experience and the ability to integrate a purchasing card with BFI's information system," said Terry A. Taylor, a Browning-Ferris vice president. "A bank card product clearly offers broader acceptance among the types of retailers from whom BFI's 2,000 cardholders will be purchasing."

Paymentech also signed for its commercial card program Youth Services International, which runs facilities for juvenile offenders.

The Baltimore-based company has signed up for the MasterCard corporate fleet card that Paymentech offers in a joint venture with PHH Inc.

James W. Baumgartner, president of Paymentech's commercial card unit, said customers are seeking products with broad capabilities.

They "want more than a purchasing or corporate card-they want improved processes," he said.
