Gulfstream Business Bank, a start-up that opened for business May 27 in Stuart, Fla., has hired four veteran Florida bankers for its management team.

Jerry Christman was named executive vice president and chief financial officer. Mr. Christman, who has 30 years of banking experience, retired last year from Dadeland Bank in Miami, which Colonial BancGroup of Montgomery, Ala., had bought the year before. He had been Dadeland's executive vice president of administration.

George Haley will be senior vice president of retail and small-business banking. Mr. Haley was a vice president of private banking services in Stuart, Fla., with Barnett Bank; he stayed on when NationsBank bought Barnett and then merged with BankAmerica Corp.

Roy Warren was named senior lending officer. He will hold the rank of senior vice president, as he did at SouthTrust Bank, where he was regional lending manager for Indian River and St. Lucie counties. Before joining SouthTrust he was a Barnett relationship manager.

Like Mr. Haley, Mr. Warren has 12 years of banking experience. And Penny Brown, hired as assistant cashier and a vice president, has 16. Ms. Brown was chief financial officer and cashier for an October start-up in Jupiter, Fla., Independent Community Bank.

John Tranter is Gulfstream's president and CEO. Its chairman is his father-in-law, Richard G. Jacobus, who is also chairman and CEO of Jacobus Wealth Management Inc., a Milwaukee investment advisory firm.

Mr. Tranter was Barnett's corporate banking manager for Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River counties and an executive vice president. He left last June, three months after the takeover by NationsBank.

Michael Ciferri is Gulfstream's vice chairman. He is president and CEO of Donovan Enterprises Inc., a Fort Myers Beach, Fla., company that makes and sells accessories for the large-truck industry. He used to be a director of Barnett Bank of the Treasure Coast in Port St. Lucie.
